Chief Engineer

We are looking for a Chief Engineer to join our team at Residence Inn by Marriott in Vancouver, BC.

The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing maintenance operations, providing our guests with a secure, comfortable environment. This position maintains the hotel’s assets through ongoing preventative maintenance programs and ensuring all mechanical systems are operating in accordance with hotel standards.

Salary: $70,000-$85,000 per year plus bonus

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Set goals, standards and solutions, meeting deadlines that are beneficial to guests, associates and the hotel.
  • Manages the equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment and electrical systems in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Coordinate and prioritize the distribution of repair maintenance orders and planned maintenance orders.
  • Train, motivate and supervise maintenance associates to ensure performance and excellent service standards are achieved.
  • Ensure the Maintenance Department operates within approved budget and assists in the preparation of the annual budget; recommend items to be included in the capital budget.
  • Ensure the necessary resources, functional tools and equipment are readily available.
  • Maintain facilities and equipment by conducting inspections on a regular basis to determine needs, extent of service, equipment required, type of operation and maintenance personnel needed.
  • Administers service contracts to support property needs
  • Ensure adherence to applicable laws; communicate with department heads regarding their programs as they pertain to the physical plant.
  • Keep all mechanical, electrical and structural blueprints and diagrams up to date; maintain library of parts list, maintain manuals, reference books and catalogs.
  • Ensure physical plant is operating in a safe, efficient and orderly fashion.
  • Maintain safe working conditions within the department and hotel by ensuring that all associates and contractors follow Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Safeguard and prepare guests, associates and hotel assets in the event of an emergency by implementing emergency procedures.
  • Oversees execution of long term preventative maintenance and 10 year capital plan
  • Addresses potential areas of concern and proposing solutions in a proactive manner
  • Maintains property life safety systems (e.g., fire fighting equipment, sprinkler systems, and alarm systems).
  • Ensures building and equipment licenses, permits and certifications are current.
  • Manage the capital expenditure and serve for all fixture, features and equipment.
  • Be aware of all chemicals in any of the cleaners/tools used on the job and follow WHMIS safety procedures.
  • Develop and promote energy conservation programs by continually monitoring utility costs and consumption.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations set forth by the Canadian Environmental Protection Act and work in compliance with all provincial and federal regulations pertaining to building & fire code.
  • Joint chair the Occupational Health and Safety committee
  • Perform technical emergency engineering repairs; inform immediate supervisor if other actions are required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years hotel maintenance experience with at least 3 years at a management level.
  • Fourth Class Power Engineering Certification or equivalent technical training in HVAC/Electrical/Plumbing or degree from an accredited institution in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related major.
  • Proficiency with MS office.
  • Knowledge of pool maintenance.
  • Proven strong leadership qualities and management skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement annual budget plans.
  • Ability to delegate tasks to team members and facilitate completion.
  • Current knowledge of Provincial Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Proven ability to be an effective leader for associates and management within a team environment.

  • Work outdoors and indoors; occasionally in inclement weather.
