Advisor, Human Capital

Reporting to the General Manager, the Advisor, Human Capital provides guidance, direction and leadership on a variety of human capital initiatives, programs and projects. This role is responsible for overseeing and managing the day to day operations of the Human Capital department and plays a key role in nurturing the hotel’s performance driven culture and achieving business objectives.

The salary range for this role is $57,509.43 – $74,046.47. The actual salary offered will be determined based on several factors, including job related knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, education, training. We reserve the upper end of the salary band for internal employees who demonstrate sustained high performance.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Ensures the hotel is operating in full compliance with all provincially and federally legislated employment standards, human rights codes, and Occupational Health & Safety legislation.
  • Spearheads training and conduct training needs analysis to identify skills and competency gaps. Assists Managers in preparing individual and departmental training and succession plans.
  • Oversees the administration of associate benefits programs, including health, retirement, and leave benefits.
  • Submits Workers’ Compensation and Short-Term Disability claims, and works with department heads to coordinate return-to-work plans and accommodations.
  • Supports the recruitment function by advertising on job boards, conducting interviews, completing background checks, preparing and sending offer packages, and delivers new hire orientations.
  • Champions associate engagement initiatives, including organizing events such as associate appreciation week, annual holiday parties, and other activities.
  • Leads the development and implementation of recognition programs.
  • Maintains all administrative processes and HRIS records related to the Human Capital department including employee files, training records, and creates reports as needed.
  • Assists with the annual Sustainable Engagement Survey and supports the development and implementation of action plans.
  • Provides internal customers with appropriate resources and prompt follow-up to questions. Escalates matters as appropriate.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:

  • Full knowledge of provincial employment legislation required.
  • Experience with coaching line managers in human capital processes and supporting them in strengthening their leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and the ability to manage competing priorities in order to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Proven effective stakeholder management and collaboration with other teams to deliver a consistent employee experience.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • High levels of flexibility and adaptability.
  • Strong computer skills are required including experience working with a HRIS and Microsoft Office Suite.

Working Conditions: In-office working conditions.

Experience, Training and Education:

  • 2 to 4 years of progressive experience in Human Resources.
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management or related field.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines, juggle priorities, and work independently.
  • Prior experience in a unionized workplace is considered an asset.
  • Actively working toward a CPHR designation is considered an asset.
