General Overview:
The primary responsibility of the Steward’s Helper is to maintain a clean and safe kitchen area in accordance with the standards set by SilverBirch Hotels.
Key Responsibilities:
• Wash soiled dishes, pots, and pans as required; must be proficient in operating an automatic dishwashing unit.
• Keep kitchens clean by sweeping and mopping the kitchen and surrounding areas.
• Remove garbage and compost from kitchens and staffroom.
• Put together dish sheets from the Banquet department as required.
• Be capable of performing a physically demanding workload, including lifting and standing for long periods of time.
• Clean the staffroom in the evenings (Harbour City Steward’s Helper).
• Be properly groomed and in a clean uniform while on duty.
• Attend all departmental communication meetings.
• Ensure all accidents and potential hazards are reported immediately to the supervisor.
• Maintain the high-quality standards required by Hotel Halifax.
• Always be polite and courteous to guests and co-workers.
• Perform other tasks as required by Sous Chefs or Supervisors.
Other Abilities, Skills and Competencies:
• Previous stewarding experience required.
• Dependable, team-oriented, and able to work flexible schedules including weekends.
Working Conditions:
- Physically fit; able to push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs., bend and kneel comfortably.
- Requires long periods of standing.
Additional Information:
Unionized Hotel Shifts: Various (weekends, overnights, early mornings, evenings, holidays)
Hours: 20–40 per week
Rate of Pay: $18.43
