SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts “Tip Out” to BC Hospitality Foundation

SilverBirch establishes scholarships to support hospitality students

Vancouver, BC, October 23, 2013 – SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts is proud to announce its third year of sponsorship support to the BC Hospitality Foundation’s (BCHF) scholarship program and the Tip Out to Help fundraising campaign. The company is a “Big Spender” level sponsor of the Tip Out to Help campaign and is also contributing two $1,500 hospitality scholarships.

The Tip Out to Help campaign is the BC Hospitality Foundation’s annual fundraiser to raise money to fill the world’s largest virtual “tip jar”. A portion of the funds raised provides scholarships and bursaries to selected students enrolled in hospitality or culinary programmes at partner post-secondary schools within BC.

“SilverBirch is honoured to be involved with the BC Hospitality Foundation,” said Steve Giblin, President and CEO of SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts. “By contributing to the scholarships, we showcase our commitment to helping our hospitality industry colleagues and new generations achieve their best.”

SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts’ involvement with the BCHF began when Sara Craig, one of their employees at the Harbour Towers Hotel and Suites in Victoria, was awarded proceeds from the Tip Out to Help fundraising campaign in 2011. Sara, a First Cook at the hotel, suffers from Crohn’s disease and complications arising from it impeded her from working. With the help of families and friends and both the Harbour Towers Hotel and Suites and the Laurel Point Inn in Victoria, where Sara’s partner worked, a total of $10,000 was raised for Sara. The BCHF then added $5,000 to the funds raised giving Sara a total of $15,000 to help her cope with the financial crisis as a result of her health condition.

“Sara Craig, a SilverBirch employee at the Harbour Towers Hotel in Victoria is a beneficiary of the Foundation, and a valued volunteer and ambassador. So I was delighted when SilverBirch came on board to support the Foundation and demonstrate their commitment to the industry’s charity,” said Alan Sacks, BCHF’s Executive Director. “We are proud to have the SilverBirch name on two of our hospitality scholarships.”

The BCHF will be announcing the winners of the 2013 scholarships, including the two SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts Hospitality Scholarships, at the CONNECT Show Dinner Reception on October 28, 2013.
