11 Mar SilverBirch Celebrates New Electronic Pay Statement System by Planting 3,000 Trees
Vancouver, BC, March 11, 2014 – SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts is introducing a new electronic pay statement system for its 3,000 associates at all of its hotels and teaming up with Tree Canada to celebrate the initiative by planting a tree in honour of each associate.
“Environmental responsibility is a core pillar of our business, and this initiative helps us move one more step closer to achieving our strategic goals for responsible property investing,” says Steve Giblin, President and CEO, SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts. “In addition to providing efficiency improvements and cost savings, this transition to an electronic pay statement system at all of our hotels and our partnership with Tree Canada allows us to engage our associates and demonstrate our commitment to the environment.”
The trees will be planted in the five regions across Canada that SilverBirch currently operates in, including Atlantic Canada, Quebec, Ontario, the Prairies and British Columbia, and the distribution will be based on the percentage of associates working in each area.
SilverBirch’s sustainability goals support socially responsible practices that positively impact its stakeholders, the communities it does business in, and the environment so that its current requirements can be met without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. This includes, among other activities, promoting waste reduction, energy efficiency in existing hotels and new builds, community outreach, education, and focus on recycling and reducing the amount of materials entering landfill when constructing new hotels. In addition, each of SilverBirch’s hotels has its own Green Team, which focuses on everything from creating responsible vendor partnerships to increasing their commitment within their local environment.
Last autumn, SilverBirch announced that each of its operating hotels had been awarded at least four Green Keys under the globally recognized Green Key Eco-Rating Program.
Tree Canada is the largest national tree organization in Canada, and has planted nearly 80 million trees across the country over the last two decades. This partnership with SilverBirch is part of Tree Canada’s National Greening Program.
