Hotel scooped Award of Excellence at prestigious interior design gala in Vancouver, BC
Vancouver, B.C., September 29, 2014– SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts proudly announces that the DoubleTree by Hilton™ Hotel & Conference Centre Regina has been recognized with the Award of Excellence in the Hospitality category for exceptional interior design by the Interior Designers Institute of BC (IDIBC). The award was presented to the design team, B+H CHIL Design, and SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts, at the Annual IDIBC Awards Gala in Vancouver on September 26.
Formerly known as the Regina Inn Hotel, the property recently underwent a significant renovation, transforming the hotel into the first DoubleTree by Hilton™ in Canada. The hotel features 235 guest rooms, a prime downtown location and a signature SilverBirch Conference Centre. The hotel is owned and managed by SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts.
Inspired by Regina’s rich prairie history, the DoubleTree by Hilton™ Hotel & Conference Centre Regina’s design reflects the contrast between Regina’s rural landscapes and its rapid industrial growth. A colour palate of blue and ochre was used to represent the region’s open wheat fields, and wheat motifs were subtly weaved into public spaces. To create the contrast, the design team chose modern, chic upholstery which created a rustic charm, striking a balance between the old and the new.
“We’re thrilled to receive the Award of Excellence for the DoubleTree by Hilton™ Hotel & Conference Centre Regina. It’s an honour to receive recognition from such a prestigious industry body,” said Steve Giblin, President & CEO of SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts. “It was the collaborative effort between our design and construction team and the B+H CHIL Design team that really brought our vision for this hotel to life, creating a warm and inviting space for our guests but also integrating Regina’s rich culture into the design.”
“The design was a balance between representing the region’s agricultural heritage and recognizing the needs of our guests,” added Catherine Berardi, Director, Project Management, Design & Construction, SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts. “Weaving the same design elements into public areas like the Wild Sage Kitchen & Bar® and the SilverBirch Conference Centre, as well as the guestrooms, provided functionality and aesthetic appeal at the same time.”
“One element that makes this award so special is the fact that it is peer-nominated,” said Adele Rankin, Senior Associate, B+H CHIL Design. “It’s one of the highest regarded honours in the B.C. design community, so it’s a huge honour to be recognized by our peers.”
