SBHR: Welcome Mike, tell us your story.
MW: I arrived back in Canada after working for 15 years In the United States in Minneapolis, Chicago and the past 12 years in Florida. My kids had never experienced snow until 2013 and it was one of the coldest winters on record….one day it was 100 degrees F difference between there and here! WOW!!
SBHR: Describe your position as GM.
MW: I love interacting with staff and guests alike, I love when I hear a story of how one of my associates went above and beyond to take care of a unique situation to MAKE IT RIGHT for our guests.
SBHR: What is the most rewarding part of your job?
MW: Smiling faces of someone new to Canada who has just landed their first job in their new Homeland. Or giving back to the community by donating my time cleaning up garbage or sorting food at the Regina Foodbank.
SBHR: We hear that the DoubleTree Regina is hosting the 21st Annual Children’s Core Christmas Luncheon. Tell us more about this event.
MW: It’s my most rewarding feel-good event of the year, this year we fed almost 650 inner city school kids a plated traditional turkey dinner and with the community’s assistance we served all meals within 20 minutes! The Saskatchewan Roughriders provided a toy for each child this year and the hit of the show besides Santa of course was a surprise visit by Elsa and Olaf!
Special thanks to Pat and Janice here at the Hilton who have been a part of this for many years and insured we continued the tradition when we re-opened!
SBHR: What kind of advice would you give someone looking to get more involved in their community?
MW: There are so many ways to assist, pick something near and dear to your heart, involve your kids and watch your heart grow.
SBHR: Tell us one thing that most people don’t know about you.
MW: I played the accordion for two years to appease my Dad who was from Germany!
SBHR: Did you make any New Year’s resolutions, and if yes, what were they?
MW: Too boring ….lose weight!! LOL but after the Holidays!
