RED DEER LODGE EARNS FIVE GREEN KEYS RATING
Industry rating system focuses on green initiatives
RED DEER, AB (September 30, 2011) SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts is proud to announce that its Red Deer Lodge Hotel and Conference Centre has been awarded a rating of five Green Keys under the prestigious international Green Key Eco-Rating Program.
Previously rated three Green Keys, this significant increase was awarded in recognition of Red Deer Lodge’s continuing focus on cutting edge technologies, policies and programs that conform to the highest standards of environmental and social responsibility in all areas of operations.
"For several years, the Red Deer Lodge has been mindful to minimize the hotel's impact on the environment from our operations, while implementing green initiatives and improving our green program while maintaining a premiere level of service and experience for guests," said John Mytz, General Manager of the Red Deer Lodge. "Both the hotel management and our team of employees are committed to an active and ongoing sustainability program that supports social and environmental practices that positively impact the community of Red Deer.”
Some examples of the programs in use at the Red Deer Lodge include:
- the use of new, energy saving light bulbs in all rooms
- the provision of recycling bins in guest rooms and meeting rooms
- a conservation program for housekeeping – guests can indicate that they don’t need their towels and linens washed each day
- the use of recyclable containers for in-room amenities and take-out containers at hotel restaurants
- the formation of employee-led green committees to identify areas for improvement in each department
The Green Key Eco-Rating Program is administered on behalf of the Hotel Association of Canada.
