Tipi Raising At The Saskatoon Inn Hotel Celebrates National Aboriginal Day
SASKATOON, SK (June 20, 2007) - The Saskatoon Inn Hotel and Conference Centre will join together with the city's youth to celebrate 2007 National Aboriginal Day.
A celebration with over 45 youths will be hosted on Thursday, June 21, at the Saskatoon Inn Hotel and Conference Centre. In honour of Aboriginal culture, traditional highlights will include Tipi-raising, story telling and Métis jigging.
"It is our goal to bring together the young people of this city and celebrate Aboriginal culture while promoting cultural harmony. We believe that the youth are our future and this event will be a great learning experience for all." said Melanie Stroh, Director of Sales and Marketing for the Saskatoon Inn Hotel and Conference Centre.
The event will be attended by youth from Howard Coad Elementary and St. Edwards School, members of the Aboriginal community, and associates of the Saskatoon Inn Hotel and Conference Centre.
"Two of CHIP Hospitality's values are Appreciation and Respect for all. The National Aboriginal Day Celebration is an excellent way for us to bring together Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people to learn about each other's culture and bring us closer to living these values every day," said Stroh.
Every year, the Saskatoon Inn and Conference Centre sponsors several programs and events within the Aboriginal community such as the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Cultural Celebration and Powwow, and the Saskatoon Tribal Council's Super Saturday program. The Saskatoon Inn is committed to public awareness and strives to educate all associates about Aboriginal culture. In 2004, 200 of the hotel's associates participated in the Office of the Treaty Commissioner's Treaty Awareness program and gained a better understanding of First Nations history and culture.
Hotel cleansing ceremonies, Aboriginal cuisine and art displays are just a sampling of events planned to celebrate National Aboriginal Day at CHIP Hospitality hotels in Saskatchewan and Alberta.
Organized in cooperation with local Aboriginal groups, the events build on CHIP's longstanding partnerships with Aboriginal groups across the country, which include a scholarship program for Aboriginal youth, sponsorship of local Aboriginal events and programs, and hospitality career and recruitment opportunities.
