Vancouver, B.C (January 24, 2013) – SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts is pleased to announce that its Friends in Need campaign raised over $50,000, exceeding the fundraising goal by over 15 per cent. During the 2012 holiday season, participating SilverBirch hotels offered guests special holiday rates, with $10 from each room booked during the week of December 21 to 27 going towards each hotel’s local charities of choice.
“Friends in Need is an initiative for SilverBirch to give back to its communities, and since its inception we have raised close to $1.15 million for worthy causes across Canada,” said Steve Giblin, President and CEO of SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts. “The campaign is always well received by our guests and in turn, we are able to turn our guests’ support into financial support for great local programs.”
Aside from funds raised through room bookings, several of the participating hotels got creative to raise additional funds for their charities. Highlights from the 2012 Friends in Need campaign include:
- Radisson Hotel Edmonton South –Robin Cumine, Area General Manager, raised an additional $1,500 from staff donations for shaving off his moustache, which he’s had since he was a teenager.
- Harbour Towers Hotel & Suites Victoria – The hotel started a Friday Jeans Day program, where associates contributed $5 to wear their jeans to work, raising an additional $1,000 for their charity.
- Lethbridge Lodge Hotel and Conference Centre – The hotel raised over $7,000 for the STARS Air Ambulance to fund two medi-helicopter flights, exceeding their target goal of funding for one flight.
The Friends in Need campaign is a part of SilverBirch’s “Hotels with Heart” social responsibility program, which includes educational internship programs with culinary and hospitality training schools and implementation of the Hotel Association of Canada’s Green Key ECOmmodation program.
