Over the years I have had a number of interesting personal adventures and career experiences that have shaped my life. I most certainly have a passion for travel and adventure. A few highlights have been biking and camping in the San Juan Islands, kayaking and camping in the Gulf Islands, biking and hiking throughout the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, and the Amazon jungle. I also lived in Barbados and traveled throughout the Caribbean. My one and only experience with an all-inclusive resort occurred in Cuba; however, it ended shortly after my arrival because I decided to hitchhike across the island and live with a local family for the remainder of my trip! Now that was exciting!
Some of my career paths have also presented exciting opportunities. I worked for EMI Music Canada and had a chance to meet a number of famous and up-and-coming artists such as Janet Jackson, Sarah Brightman, Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Chemical Brothers, The Tea Party, Tom Cochrane, Nickleback and Oscar Lopez…the list goes on and on. I have diverse music interests, so that was a great fit for me. I absolutely loved the energy in the music scene (the music, the artists, the retailers, & the fans). The music industry was a riot in the 90’s! I also had the fortunate opportunity to be a Marketing Instructor at MacEwan University and that was an extremely rewarding experience. I loved dealing with students and opening their eyes to the world of marketing. I would always strive to make my lectures interesting and encourage my students to be fully engaged. The students would work in groups to create an actual “new-to-the-world” product with a professional, detailed marketing plan. To this day, I expect some of them will go on “Dragon’s Den” and have successful entrepreneurial careers!
Now I have begun my career as the Group Sales Manager for the Mayfield Dinner Theatre…where will this new path take me? This is another fabulous opportunity because the sky is the limit! I have a passion for people, high quality entertainment and, most of all, having fun! The Mayfield Dinner Theatre provides very high quality entertainment with outstanding actors and musicians giving outstanding performances with amazing sets, excellent sound and creative costumes – all in a wonderful room that makes for a memorable evening! And, I haven’t even started to talk about the food yet!
SBHR: What would you say is the most exciting part about your job?
NC: Being part of the theatre experience! I love going out and talking to people to create awareness and promote the theatre. So far, for example, I have experienced a very warm reception from people in the business community. My ultimate goal is to create as much excitement in the marketplace for the theatre as I can. I want the Mayfield Dinner Theatre to be top of mind when people are planning an evening out or a special event and I love being able to promote a top-quality entertainment experience!
SBHR: Which upcoming MDT play/musical are you most looking forward to seeing?
NC: That is a tough question because I have an interest in all of our upcoming plays/musicals. I have to admit that I have a weakness for musicals (Big Surprise!), so I am really looking forward to “Dark Star – The Life and Times of Roy Orbison”. This show runs from Sept 4 – Nov 1, 2015. The next performance is our Christmas show which will take you “Back to the 80’s” and it will be “A Most Excellent Musical Adventure”. This performance runs from Nov 10, 2015 – Jan 31, 2016. And last, but not least is “HAIR” – be sure to look up the history on this one! This show runs April 12 – June 12, 2016. Now, to finally answer your question, I think “HAIR” would be the musical that I am most looking forward to…I can’t wait! Our entire 2015-2016 season is going to be fabulous, so be sure to check out one or more of our performances!
SBHR: Tell us one thing that most people don’t know about you.
NC: I love to dance! In my youth I performed ballet and jazz and dancing has continued well into my adult life. My husband, my daughter and I can be seen busting a move in our living room on many weekends if you are driving down our street. We have a fabulous collection of 60’s, 70’s and 80’s vinyl, so what else would you do?
