Position: Server

We are looking for a Server at the Residence Inn by Marriott in Downtown Vancouver.

The hotel formerly known as Cascadia Hotel & Suites has undergone a $25 million total renovation and has opened with both a new name and a brand new look!

Reporting to the Food & Beverage Manager, the Server will be responsible for providing quality food and beverage service to our guests in an efficient and courteous manner. This will be consistent with the daily operations of the hotel’s Food and Beverage Outlets and in accordance with both Residence Inn by Marriott Hotel and SilverBirch Hotel & Resorts standards. The successful candidate should be familiar with wines and food trends and will convey this enthusiasm to the customers and colleagues.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Required to work floor shifts in Restaurant and Banquets
• Ensure guest service standards are exceeded constantly
• Accurate cash handling and processing electronic payments
• Ensure proper set-up for reservations
• Ensure server stations and work lists are completed
• Ensure proper use and cleanliness of equipment
• Assist in the selling of promotions; specials and contests
• Check each guest table for satisfaction
• Ensure safe and friendly environment
• Work as a team player to ensure that all areas operate smoothly and efficiently
• Liaison with the kitchen to ensure that quality is consistently high
• Have full knowledge of the Micros system and be comfortable with modern technology
• Always smile and maintain eye contact.
• Maintaining food safety for the department and following local and Marriott guidelines for food safety.
• Follow all department and hotel standards as set forth by SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts.
• Follow all policies and procedures in employee handbook.
• Any other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications and Requirements:

• Minimum 1 year experience as a server in both restaurant and banquets capacities.
• Serving it Right Certificate required.
• Comprehensive knowledge/interest in wine.
• Proven customer service skills and experience required.
• Good communication skills both written and verbal.
• Must have experience in POS systems, preferably MICROS.
• Successful candidate must be available for all shifts, split-shifts including weekends and statutory holidays, with respect to the Collective Agreement.
• Physically fit– able to continuously stand for long periods of time, bend, and lift heavy objects.
• Maintain a high level of professional appearance, demeanor, and ethics.
• Food Safe Certificate and asset.
• Minimum 19 years of age, bondable.

NOTE: This position is based on business levels; as such the average expected hours are approximately 20 hours per week.
