The two hotels are accepting donations now until 12:00 p.m. on July 29.

The mission of Feed Nova Scotia, a registered charity, is to feed Nova Scotians who are in need and to reduce that need. The agency distributes 2 million kilograms of donated food to its member network of 147 food banks and meal programs across the province. Feed Nova Scotia also supports members as they build capacity to serve their communities, and helps raise awareness of the challenges hunger and poverty create each day for thousands of Nova Scotians.

“Feed Nova Scotia is critically low on food, so we are encouraging guests and members of the community to make a donation at our two Halifax hotels,” says Steve Giblin, President and CEO of SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts.

Feed Nova Scotia says its most critical needs currently are canned meat, soups and stews, canned vegetables, cereal, pasta and pasta sauce.

Vancouver, BC, July 19, 2016 – SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts is pleased to announce the Quality Hotel and Conference Centre in Fort McMurray has re-opened to the public following the devastating wildfires that led to the evacuation of the city in May.

Quality Hotel Fort McMurray Re-Opens!

While the hotel did not sustain fire damage, smoke from the wildfires required an extensive clean-up of the hotel and conference facilities. The hotel was also used to temporarily accommodate over 200 first responders who were battling the wildfires.

“The people of Fort McMurray have demonstrated remarkable resilience under extremely difficult circumstances,” says Steve Giblin, President and CEO of SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts. “Life is slowly returning to normal and all of us at SilverBirch and the Quality Hotel and Conference Centre are proud to be a part of the rebuilding of Fort McMurray.”

The Quality Hotel and Conference Centre has a new General Manager, Jayakrishna (JK) Tiramula, a Fort McMurray resident and hospitality sector veteran, and a new Executive Chef, Christina Bowie, also a Fort McMurray resident who has been building her culinary skills, starting at just 15 years old, in a variety of roles in different parts of Canada.

Guests returning to the Quality Hotel and Conference Centre can expect some exciting changes. The hotel is introducing a new menu for its popular sports bar The Den (re-opening on August 1), while Table 63 Restaurant will continue offering its famous hot breakfast buffet, with fan favourites like smoked salmon and double house smoked bacon, along with some new menu choices. And finally, the exterior will be transformed with new landscaping.

During the evacuation, SilverBirch’s Radisson Hotel Edmonton South, Double Tree by Hilton and Home2 Suites by Hilton West Edmonton accommodated Quality Hotel employees and their families as well as many displaced citizens of Fort McMurray.  In addition, more than $61,000 was raised by SilverBirch hotels through the Friends in Need campaign. Between June 18 and 25, each hotel designated $5 from every room night booked, with the proceeds going to Local 2494 Fort McMurray Fire Fighters Relief Fund.

Hampton's Take the Stairs ContestHalifax, NS, July 5, 2016 – SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts is pleased to announce the launch of an innovative campaign to promote health awareness among guests at the Hampton Inn by Hilton™ Halifax Downtown. The “Take the Stairs” campaign is designed to encourage guests to use the hotel’s stairs rather than its elevators, by offering participating guests the chance to win a Garmin Vivofit® activity tracker in a weekly draw. Eight Vivofits will be given away over the two-month long campaign, which runs from July 1 to August 31.
