Bullfrog EnergyRegina, SK, February 4 2016— The DoubleTree by HiltonTM Hotel and Conference Centre Regina is excited to announce a new partnership with Bullfrog Power to provide clean, green energy for the hotel’s meeting and conferences rooms and three Hilton HHonors floors. The partnership is the first in Saskatchewan between a hotel and the green energy provider.

Friends In Need DonationVancouver, B.C, January 14, 2016 – SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts is pleased to announce that it has raised a total of $36,040 for the annual Friends in Need holiday campaign helping local charities across Canada. During the holiday season, 10 participating SilverBirch hotels offered guests special holiday rates, with $10 from each room booked during the week of December 21 to 27 going towards each hotel’s local charities of choice.

“This was the 16th anniversary of the Friends In Need campaign and we want to thank our guests for their continuing support,” says Steve Giblin, President & CEO of SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts. “Thanks to the commitment of our hotels and staff, this year’s campaign surpassed our fundraising goal by 150 per cent with all proceeds supporting local programs in each of our hotels’ communities.”

To date, the Friends In Need campaign has raised over $1.26 million, benefiting charities across Canada. This year, the organizations benefiting from the Friends in Need campaign are BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, First Baptist Church Community Suppers, RSA – No Child Left on the Sidelines, Make A Wish Foundation, Bryony House, Edmonton Humane Society and Fort McMurray SPCA.

Friends In Need Campaign
Proceeds from room reservations during December 21 – 27 will benefit local charities

Vancouver, BC, December 1, 2015 – SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts is excited to celebrate the 16th anniversary of its Friends In Need holiday campaign to support local communities. For every room reservation made at participating SilverBirch hotels during the week of December 21 to 27, a donation of $10 will be made to a local charity.

“SilverBirch is excited to continue to support our local communities with the 16th annual Friends In Need campaign,” says Steve Giblin, President & CEO of SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts. “The campaign reaffirms our commitment to make a difference and give back to the communities we operate in, while providing additional value for our guests with a special holiday rate.”

Guests are encouraged to book early for the holiday season to receive special rates ranging from $85 to $149 per night. This year, the target is to raise over $23,000 through hotel room bookings and local fundraising events hosted by the participating hotels.

Since its inception in 2000, the Friends In Need campaign has raised over $1.2 million, benefiting charities across Canada. SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts properties participating in the Friends in Need campaign this year include:

Chef Scott TorgersonSaskatoon, SK, November 25, 2015 – Squaring off against seven of the city’s culinary best, Radisson Hotel Saskatoon’s Executive Chef Scott Torgerson took home Silver at the 10th anniversary celebration of the Gold Medal Plates culinary competition.

“Winning the Silver medal is a great honour,” says Chef Torgerson. “I share this achievement with my team at the Radisson Hotel Saskatoon and Aroma Resto Bar. Their continuous support allows us the time to prepare for competitions such as this.”

Chef Torgerson created a birch glazed pheasant with warm mousse of foie gras, assorted micro squash, fennel hay and roasted hazelnut with hemp heart. Helping to balance the flavours, the dish was paired with a Grand Reserve Chardonnay by Jackson-Triggs Okanagan Estates.

GMP 31843Judged by a panel of eight, each dish was awarded points based on visual presentation, texture, taste, wine compatibility, originality and wow factor. Visitors can experience Chef Torgerson’s award-winning culinary skills at the Radisson Hotel Saskatoon.

Founded in 2003, the Gold Medal Plates is an annual celebration of Canadian Excellence in cuisine, wine, the arts and athletic achievement. Every year, premier chefs across Canada compete for the gold, silver and bronze medal. Net proceeds from Gold Medal Plates are given to the Canadian Olympic Foundation which supports Olympic and Paralympic athletes and high performance programs. To date, the competition has raised over $9.7 million to support Canadian athletes.
