We are looking for Maintenance Associates at Fairfield Inn & Suites® by Marriott in St. John’s.

It is a very exciting time to join the SilverBirch family with our new partner Fairfield Inn & Suites® by Marriott.  Formerly known as The Travellers Inn St. John’s, the hotel is currently undergoing a $21 million complete revitalization and will re-open early 2013 with both a new name and a brand-new look!

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Associates will be responsible for the overall repair and maintenance of all hotel facilities, grounds & equipment in an efficient and professional manner.  All service provided is expected to be consistent with the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott and SilverBirch Hotel & Resorts standards.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs quality preventative maintenance of all guest rooms and common areas.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with the hotel’s life safety systems and takes corrective action on any maintenance or operating issues which affect the security of the hotel.
  • Service maintenance requests from guests and associates in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Be committed to a culture of a “green” hotel and actively participate in initiatives as well as seeking out opportunities to reduce, reuse and recycle.
  • Complies with all provincial and federal regulations pertaining to building and fire code requirements, health and life safety programs.
  • Maintains safe work practices and the use of environmentally sound practices.
  • Knowledge of hotel emergency procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must possess a minimum of 3 -4 years of maintenance experience preferably in a hotel or residential complex.
  • Knowledge of pool and spa maintenance.
  • Must possess knowledge of HVAC, electrical and plumbing.
  • Hands on experience with trouble shooting.
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Fifth Class Stationary ticket would be a definite asset.
  • Must be able to work all shifts including weekends and statutory holidays.
