We are looking for an Assistant Controller at the DoubleTree by Hilton™ Hotel & Conference Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan (opening late 2013).

Reporting to the Controller, we are seeking an Assistant Controller who will be responsible for managing the systems and internal controls to safeguard the hotel from possible losses and recognize risks which may occur.  Under the direction of the Controller, this position is responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the financial statements which include the balance sheets the statement of profit and loss and to perform general ledger accounting and reconciliation functions in order to provide timely and accurate financial information to hotel executive management.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manages receivables, payables, credit, payroll and cash handling functions with the accounting department
  • Prepares budgeting, planning and forecasting reports
  • Monitors compliance with credit policies
  • Controls expenditures within budget by ensuring the tools provided are being used in all operations of the hotel
  • Ensures hotel is in compliant with all regional, provincial and federal laws and regulations including tax regulations
  • Maintains a systems of accounts and internal controls to provide accurate and timely financial statements
  • Maintains policy and procedures manuals for the Accounting Department
  • Ensures the completion of the monthly Internal Control Self-Assessment
  • Performs operational process reviews to ensure proper control systems are in place and associates are adhering to company policies and procedures
  • Continuously evaluating financial and operational policies with a view to improve their effectiveness and efficiency
  • Ensures internal and external audit recommendations are implemented on a timely basis
  • Approves journal entries before they are posted to the general ledger
  • Participates in monthly physical counts and valuation of inventories, including par stock inventories
  • Reviews the work of Night Auditors
  • Reviews procedures and controls over cash receipts including issuing and monitoring cash floats
  • Other duties as assigned by Controller or General Manager.


Preferred Education & Qualifications:

  • A degree/diploma in accounting or finance
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a senior accounting role preferably in a hotel
  • Experience generating and analyzing monthly financial reports
  • Knowledge of local, regional, provincial and federal laws and regulations including tax regulations
  • Experience implementing and maintaining effective purchasing processes
  • Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Strong supervisory experience
  • Understands and demonstrates customer service and works to build organizational credibility.
