Q: Why should I choose a career in hospitality?
A: Why not? Where else can you have direct impact on the customer experience while growing your skills in a variety of disciplines; all the while working with a variety of people who are passionate about having fun both in and out of work!

Q: Do I need to wear a uniform?
A: Certain areas of our company do require uniforms as part of the job, which are supplied by our company. While we always maintain a professional image in all areas of our business, our dress code varies depending on the location, providing flexibility wherever we can.

Q: Your company has hotels across Canada. Are there job opportunities and movement between hotels?
A: Yes. With such diverse hotels in locations from coast to coast, we have lots of opportunity for movement. We post all of our positions internally first before they are advertised externally, and encourage our associates to apply.

Q: What skills do I need to enter the hospitality industry?
A: The skills required to work in the hospitality industry vary from job to job. Many hospitality positions require technical training. For example: chef training, engineer schooling, finance education, or specific computer skills, but above all you must have an innate interest in providing outstanding customer service. If you've got that, in most cases, we can teach you everything else you need!

Q: Hotels are 24/7, how will I achieve a work life balance?
A: While our operations are based on a business that runs twenty four hours a day seven days a week, our company's values include making work/life balance a priority. We believe that our associates need time away from work to spend with family, friends and to pursue other interests. Having work life balance is crucial to your success and ultimately our company's success. We have "Rules of Play" in place to support time-off and balanced working hours.

Q: You say you are lively, but what does that mean?
A: Liveliness means something different to each person at SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts; however, all of our associates bring energy, enthusiasm and passion to what they do. We have created a workplace where we encourage people to share a laugh, support each other and celebrate success - in your own individual way. One size does not fit all.

Q: You are multi branded what does that mean?
A: We manage independent hotels such as the Mayfield Inn & Suites and Saskatoon Inn, and hotels operating under major franchise brands, such as Crowne Plaza, Radisson, Residence Inn by Marriott, Holiday Inn, Hilton, Quality, Gouverneur, Best Western and Ramada.

Q: With a national company will I get lost in the shuffle?
A: No. We are a national company that is made up of many smaller hotels. Each hotel has a unique culture, leadership style and sense of place. Within all our hotels we have SilverBirch branded programs that are focused on the associate, including quarterly dialogues, Cultural Spirit Index surveys measuring employee satisfaction, stay interviews and on boarding. Being part of a national company also has its benefits including, opportunity for growth, experience a variety in hotels and job types, and greater sharing of ideas.

Q: How does SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts celebrate individuality?
A: All employees are encouraged to share ideas that will help us evolve and improve our company. Our recruiters are on the lookout for candidates with a natural flair for creativity and the confidence to voice ideas. We celebrate our diverse culture and encourage sharing new ideas through Town Halls, team meetings, suggestion boxes, focus groups, and Cultural Spirit Index surveys to name a few. At SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts the sky is the limit!
